EXTRA BENEFIT by Donating in 2020: This year only, the CARES Act provides individual taxpayers, even those who take the standard deduction amount, an "above-the-line" deduction of up to $300 for cash/check/credit card/debit card donations made to charity during 2020. More details at the IRS website. This means the deduction lowers both adjusted gross income and taxable income – translating into tax savings for those making donations to qualifying tax-exempt organizations
